Recycling Service for Businesses
Businesses can receive mixed paper, beverage container, corrugated cardboard, organics, or custom recycling services based on your business's specific needs. Recology will provide rolling carts (with sticker labels) and/or dumpsters for the materials. Lockable containers are available. Call Recology at 408-842-3358 to start your recycling service.
Other items not accepted by Recology can sometimes be recycled or reused by other companies in the Bay Area. Information can be obtained by calling a Countywide recycling hotline at 800-533-8414.
Mandatory Commercial Organics & Recycling Collection
AB 1826, SB 1383, AB 341
The mandatory Commercial Organic Waste Recycling Law, Assembly Bill (AB) 1826 requires all businesses that generate four (4) or more cubic yards of organic waste per week (food waste, green waste, landscape & pruning waste, non-hazardous wood waste and food-soiled paper) to compost.
Senate Bill (SB) 1383 requires all businesses to divert organics from the landfill. Businesses must provide collection containers for organic waste and recyclables in all areas where disposal containers are provided for customers.
Assembly Bill (AB) 341 requires all businesses that generate four or more cubic yards of garbage per week and multi-family dwellings with five or more units to recycle.
Green Business Program
The Santa Clara County Green Business Program is part of a statewide Green Business network that certifies businesses that have incorporated environmentally sound practices into their business operations. Call 408-282-3180 or visit the program website to get started.
Solid Waste Ordinances & Reporting Forms
Ordinance No. 2089 (PDF) bans the use of single-use, plastic carry-out bags by all stores. Customers need to bring a reusable bag, or purchase a paper or reusable bag for a minimum of $0.10 from retail stores in Morgan Hill.
