Recycling and Waste Reduction Commission

The ten-member RWRC commission is made up of select local elected officials that serve as the principal advisory body to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors on countywide solid waste planning issues. 

Committees and Subcommittees

Members of the committees and subcommittees are comprised of solid waste professionals from each city and the County and representatives of the private solid waste industry, business, and representatives of interested community organizations.

Technical Advisory Committee

Members of the committees and subcommittees are comprised of solid waste professionals from each city and the County and representatives of the private solid waste industry, business, and representatives of interested community organizations. TAC is composed of solid waste professionals from each city and the County, representatives of the private solid waste industry, business, and representatives of interested community organizations. TAC meets on the second Thursday of each month.

Implementation Committee

The purpose of the Implementation Committee (IC) is to make decisions and recommendations on all fiscal, management and administrative issues relating to countywide integrated waste management programs. The purpose of the Implementation Committee (IC) is to make decisions and recommendations on all fiscal, management and administrative issues relating to countywide integrated waste management programs. The IC meets on the second Thursday of each month.

SB 1383 Subcommittee

The SB 1383 Subcommittee meets to strategize and implement this new State law that establishes statewide targets and local requirements to dramatically reduce the amount of organic waste disposed in landfills. The subcommittee also discussed methods for edible food recovery and how to reach the goal to recover at least 20 percent of currently disposed edible food by 2025. This Subcommittee meets on third Thursday of every month .

Zero Waste Subcommittee

The Zero Waste Subcommittee meets to discuss and strategize Countywide issues, legislation and programs that reduce materials from becoming waste, or ensure waste generated in the County is 100% recyclable to further a circular economy. This Subcommittee meets on the fourth Wednesday.

Household Hazardous Waste Subcommittee

The Household Hazardous Waste Subcommittee meets to collaborate on and discuss issues related to the safe management of hazardous materials generated by residents in Santa Clara County. This Subcommittee meets on the second Thursday of the month.

Operations Subcommittee

The Operations Subcommittee meets to discuss operational matters within the recycling and waste reduction purview, that include but are not limited to construction and demolition, waste collection and facility procedures, and emerging technologies. This Subcommittee meets on the second Tuesday of the month.

Public Education Subcommittee

The Public Education Subcommittee meets to collaborate as a County on the messages shared with community members to promote recycling and waste reduction outreach messages. The purpose of the Public Education Subcommittee is to ensure that residents and businesses have the most up to date information for waste reduction opportunities and requirements. This Subcommittee meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
