Upcoming Health and Safety Standards - Phase Out of Natural Gas

The state of California and regional agencies plan to phase out the use of natural gas. Of note are the updated rules by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, which will phase out the sale of standard gas water heaters starting in 2027 and furnaces in 2029. To promote efficiency and cost effectiveness, many property owners could benefit by preparing their homes for the eventual replacement of gas with electric appliances when completing other projects in the home. To read additional information about these changes and associated prewiring guidelines, see the attached Health and Safety Standards information guide.

Code Compliance
The Building Division is responsible for building code compliance activity related to structures and the enforcement of the Morgan Hill Municipal Code. All other code enforcement is handled by the Police Department.

Contractors State License Board
Visit the CSLB website for important information regarding hiring a contractor, or to verify if your contractor is licensed.

Development Impact Fee

To offset the financial impact of new development or a new business on public infrastructure, new projects may be subject to impact fees. Impact fees are calculated and due at building permit issuance. The City of Morgan Hill's Engineering Land Development Division can create an estimate for your project for a fee. Fees are updated twice yearly. Final impact fees may vary from the estimate. For more information, contact Engineering Land Development at 408-778-6480.
