The City of Morgan Hill, in partnership with the City of Gilroy, hosted a virtual meeting for the business community on October 27, 2021, to present two new ordinances being proposed within each City: the Mandatory Organic Waste Disposal Reduction Ordinance and the Refuse and Recycling Enclosure Ordinance.
This ordinance has been updated to enforce SB 1383, which requires residents and businesses to separate their organic wastes from the trash and participate in organic waste recycling programs. It also requires many restaurants and institutions to participate in edible food rescue programs. This City ordinance will affect how residents and businesses manage organic wastes.
Refuse and Recycling Enclosure Ordinance
This ordinance updates development standards for new and existing refuse and recycling enclosures and includes temporary compliance standards to meet the new Organic Waste Disposal requirements. Temporary compliance enclosures and non-conforming enclosures are all required to conform to the new development standards by 2030.
