Tennant Avenue Sewer Main Project
The City’s current Sewer Master Plan identifies the existing 18-inch sewer pipe within Tennant Avenue between Monterey Road and Railroad Avenue as deficient under peak flow conditions and recommends that it be increased in size to prevent sewer overflows within this segment of the City’s sewer system. The project is included in the adopted FY18-19 through FY 2023-24 Capital Improvement Program.
The scope of work includes removal of the existing sewer pipe and installation of new 27-inch sewer pipe, auger bore under the Union Pacific Railroad tracks, temporary sewer bypass system, new manholes and/or manhole modifications, manhole coating, lateral reconnections, traffic control, project clean up and video for quality control.
The City of Morgan Hill has contracted with K.J. Woods Construction, Inc. to install a new sanitary sewer main on Tennant Avenue between Monterey Road and Railroad Avenue. No interruption of sanitary sewer service is expected. This critical infrastructure project is needed to ensure the City’s Sewer System is proactively maintained and that an aging sewer line is replaced and upgraded before failure. This proactive work helps to ensure system reliability and supports public safety and protection of the environment.
No Night Work is currently scheduled.
All of the new 27 inch sewer pipe and laterals are installed per the Plans. Remaining work items include paving, striping and punch list items. This work will be completed during regular hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Lane closures will occur with traffic control devices for the various items of remaining work.
Work installing the 27 inch sewer pipe will also continue during the day between Vineyard and Railroad. Only one lane of westbound traffic will be possible during this work. This work is expected to be complete within 3 weeks.
Additional traffic impacts will occur along Tennant Avenue for the next six months. We will post these impacts as soon as the information becomes available. Traffic control will be conducted between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. During the work, traffic control devices will be set up and No Parking signs will be posted in advance. Access to residents, deliveries, and emergency services will be provided at all times during the roadwork. For your safety, please travel through the work zones/detours carefully or utilize alternative routes. Please plan for extra travel time when traveling through Tennant Avenue. The City appreciates your cooperation and apologizes for any inconveniences while construction is underway as there will be some noise, minor inconveniences, and traffic delays during the work.
