Volunteers in Policing

The City of Morgan Hill enhances Police Department services by sponsoring a Volunteers in Policing (VIP) program. The VIPs function as an auxiliary unit of the Police Department, with no powers of arrest beyond those of any private citizen. VIPs are utilized for crime prevention programs and various community services. They also undertake projects which could not otherwise be implemented due to lack of resources. VIPs serve as extra eyes, ears, and helping hands.

Some of the functions VIPs provide through the Police Department include:

  • Live Scan fingerprinting.
  • Community patrol.
  • Traffic control.
  • Clerical and administrative work.
  • Special event help.
  • PD front desk support.
