Citizens Police Academy

Citizens Police Academy

The Citizens Police Academy provides community members with an up close and personal look at police work and the Morgan Hill Police Department. The Citizens Academy builds partnerships between Police and Community Members by allowing citizens to participate in practical police training, education, and provides citizens the possibility of joining the MHPD Volunteers in Policing (VIP) program.

The Citizens Academy does not train citizens to be future police officers. It is designed to inform citizens about police policies and procedures, and to foster community support, safety, and awareness.
Participants learn about topics such as:
  • Communications
  • Crime analysis
  • Crime prevention
  • Criminal law
  • Critical incidents
  • Emergency services
  • Firearms training
  • Gangs
  • Internal investigations
  • Narcotics
  • Patrol operations
  • Police selection and training
  • Traffic enforcement
  • Much more

Once we schedule the next Citizen's Academy we will announce it here!

The Citizens Academy generally meets one night each week during its session, and a session lasts approximately 3 months, meeting at the Police Department. Registration will be limited to a manageable number of participants and priority is given to Morgan Hill residents.
All academy applicants are carefully screened and are required to consent to a background investigations check.
